2010 regional workshop of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery in Bangkok.

On June 25-27, 2010 regional workshop of International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery was held in Bangkok. It was hosted by famous Thai surgeon – Damkerng Pathomvanich. Almost all famous Asian hair transplant surgeons participated in this meeting : Kenicharo Imagava – from Japan, Tommy Sungjoo Hwang – from Korea, Bertam NG – from Hong Kong, Sanjiv Vasa – from India, Akaki Tsilosani – from Georgia.

Leading figures of hair transplantation also arrived in Bangkok from different continents: Mario Marzola – from Australia, Jerry Wong – from Canada, John Cole and Dow Stough from U.S.A. They really adorned theoretical part of the annual meeting with their scientific reports and made some demonstrative sessions: Mario Marzola – initiator of wounds trixophitic closure presented a masterful technique of strip excision and plastic, Damkerng Pathomvanich – his open donor method, Jerry Wong – formation of coronal slits, John Cole - follicular units extraction (FUE) method with minimal transsection.

Most important news as for TALIZI and it’s doctors as for majority of congress participants was John Coles technique of performing follicular units extraction and the specific instrument which mostly minimizes follicular units transsection. Index of transsection really was under 10%. In our point of view the reason of this quantitative indices besides the instrument provided by Cole, also was a big (1,2 mm diameter) punch used for extraction and a beneficial patient.

Many problems of modern hair transplantation were discussed during meeting. Mostly incisive polemic caused the question – Strip or FUE. In our opinion both methods have as positive as negative characteristics. Principle thing is using each of them on a right way in case of need. Sometimes performing a combination of both methods. Akaki Tsilosani’s report on Strip and FUE combination practically put a full stop on that discussion.

This meeting underlined the establishment of Asian Hair Restoration Surgeries Association. President of the association - Damkerng Pathomvanich and the secretary – Tommy Hwang.
